The NUL-229 NeuLog Soil Moisture Logger Sensor operates by measuring the partial vacuum pressure within a tensiometer, a closed tube with a specialised ceramic component at its end.

This tensiometer, filled with water and inserted into the soil, creates a partial vacuum pressure if the soil is dry, allowing water to diffuse through the ceramic holes. Conversely, when the soil is wet, the partial vacuum in the tensiometer draws water into it, causing a decrease in vacuum pressure. This pressure-based approach is employed to measure soil moisture levels.

Widely applied in Environmental Science, Ecology, Animal Behaviour, Biology, Chemistry, and more, the sensor utilises a Blumat soil moisture probe in conjunction with the NeuLog sensor's hardware and software.

The package includes a Blumat soil moisture probe directly attached to the NeuLog sensor's body. Pre-calibrated at the factory, the Soil Moisture Logger Sensor supports experiment durations ranging from 1 second to 31 days, making it a versatile tool for various scientific investigations.
